Everyday Disagreement Styles

How do you respond when ordinary preferences do not match?

Think about ordinary disagreements from the past two weeks with friends, classmates, or teammates, not a romantic partner. Maybe they were about plans, shared tasks, or simply wanting different things. Each score stands for one way of responding. A higher score means you reached for it more often. Scores don’t rank how good a person you are, and no one style is best in every situation. This is an original reflection exercise for adults 18 and over, and it isn’t a validated assessment. You can choose to talk something through, step out of a discussion, or ask a trusted adult or a responsible group leader for practical help. This isn’t an adult relationship-repair exercise. It doesn’t cover threats, coercion, abuse, or any situation where speaking up could put you at risk, and it doesn’t recommend reconciling in those situations.
